  Should Hand Held Cellphones Be Banned While Driving?

  many states do not even allow you to hold your phone if you are driving.

  do you think you should be fined hundreds of dollars for touching your phone while driving?

  I am torn. As a MC rider, I am for banning cell phone use while driving, especially texting. I think, texting while driving should be treated exactly like a DUI.

  Talking on a cell phone, I believe, can be problematic, especially for young and inexperienced drivers. However, I don't really see it as any more distracting than conversing with a passenger, or listening to a radio program. It's really about how much attention you allow yourself to divert away from operating the vehicle. Hands free does little difference, imo. Ultimately, we would all fare better if everyone stopped talking and focused their full attention on the road. So I suppose, If a ban on cell phone use was passed, I would be ok with it. We don't really need to be on our phones, while driving. The world functioned perfectly fine before cell phones. 99.9% of calls can wait.

  Need some advice, my gf just tried to commit suicide (very long post)

  sorry for the grammar and spelling errors if any..(me 29 raised in the org) (gf 25 not raised) just left her at the hospital with (call her sara).. sara had just ingested half a bottle of her antidepressant pill and half a bottle of melatonin.

  this took place after a discussion we where having about a recent event that took place.

  long story short, sara told me she slept with my best friend/coworker(call him tim) after a argument we had, the morning after it supposedly happened.. i was pretty torn but i was maintaining and i even thought sara was lying because tim was such a good friend.

  So, what about your friend? Is that still up in the air, or do you have a definitive answer as to what she told you?

  What you witnessed in this situation, actually were a part of, is scary and overwhelming. You most definitely should talk to a professional about it, and seek some help, answers, and perhaps closure, for yourself. If you don't, you're likely to continue to mentally re-live this for quite some time, and this can take a toll on you. I have experienced something very similar, having to rush a loved one, very dear to me, to an emergency room, after she ingested an overdose of pills, in a desperate call for help. It is scary, and I was helpless to do anything, which to me, as a man, is a foreign concept that I have a difficult time accepting. But I needed answers. The answers, from a professional, and patience, helped. I hope you seek help from a professional, someone you can give all the details to, and who can safely help you decipher them, and get you to a place where you can move forward to more healthy relationships. My heart goes out to you, and to Sara. Take care.

  for some reason former jw friends came to mind and i thought of their car how it was a mess of clothes, squashed food and other grunge.

  they had adult kids who could have cleaned it once a while.. others had vehicles that never saw a spanner and another which rode the highways on bald tyres.. hmm a bit too spiritually minded perhaps?.

  is auto neglect common out there?.

  It's an attention grab. Are you a celebrity, not getting enough attention? Tweet, publicly say, or do something ridiculous, and get all the attention your heart desires. Theres no such thing as bad publicity. Especially when you're a C- celebrity.

  See; Kathy Griffin, Donald Trump, Kanye West, Roseanne Barr, everyone who's ever been a host of the view, Jesse Smollett, etc...

  She can withhold all the sex she wants, I'm not sleeping with her.

  I was fortunate enough, and smart enough to pick a woman who has a whole lot more sense, than ms Milano. She enjoys sex too much, and is far too intelligent to play silly psychological games and withhold it. Besides, who wants to punish themselves in a ridiculously desperate grab for attention.

  Incidentally, I've been on a Alyssa Milano strike since Charmed, and so it seems, has any movie and tv show, worth watching...

  ...speaking of JW cars, I was watching the latest Cedars rebuttal of the 2019 convention videos, and one particular video, about not pursuing a full time career, stood out. So in this video, its career day at high school, and two young "brothers" are conversing about it. One of the boys gets a glimpse of his future, if he goes ahead and pursues his dream job, full time. He envisions himself, pulling up to a group of friends (also jw "brothers" portraid in suits) in a newer Honda Civic, 4 door. These friends are all admiring his new car, and he's proud of it, his new job affording him this new car. Later, when he continues his day dream, as it goes south, he is selling off his car, because it's not a necessity.

  So many problems with this.

  1. A 2018 Civic 4 door, is a dream car to a 17 year old? Really...

  2. Portaying a newer, modest, 4 door automobile as, materialistic, is a new low imo. In my day, as a witness, it would've been regarded as a practical service vehicle. But 17 year old me didn't want a 4 door. I wanted a 2 door sports car, which is what all teenage boys should be fantasizing about, when day dreaming of their future, car owning, selves. (Substitute, 4x4, muscle car, motorcycle, or other non practical, flashy vehicle, if your taste isn't sports cars)

  Anyway, just shameful that any aspect of wanting to better yourself, or driving something newer and nice, even though it is practical, is all packaged up as wrong, and demonized. Reinforcing; a good jw's car should be older, not even moderately "flashy".

  Why doesn't the Watchtower Society never study the Bible cover to cover?

  in the 40 years as a jehovah's witness, i never read the bible cover to cover.

  the three meetings a week were broken up with book studies, awake and watchtower magazines,and ministry& field service meetings, all written by the watchtower society.

  never did we read any chapters from genesis to revelation and discuss the true meaning of what we just read.

  Yes, the first talk covered a few consecutive chapters in a sequential bible book, and the number 2 talk was a bible reading of a small, select few verses of one of those chapters, in the book, covered by the number 1 talk. This was done weekly, taking (i believe) about 2 1/2 years or so to cover the entire bible. You were supposed to read the entire bible chapter selections in your personal preparation for the meeting. So only 15-20 minutes were devoted to an average of 5 or so chapters of the bible, per week. Enough time to skim, but not nearly enough time to delve in. So, have I read the bible cover to cover? Yes. Have I studied the bible, cover to cover? No. And I would bet most witnesses, if honest, would respond the same.

  JW.org marks International Women's Day 2019

  for the second year in a row, the org has marked international women's day.

  this time, it's an article that lists most female bible characters in alphabetical order with a brief summary for each, topped by a picture of them in 'empowering' poses.

  rey and captain marvel would be proud lol.. .

  Yah, is there some kind of statement, noting international women's day? I would be shocked if they acknowledged it at all. Absolutely shocked. Blondies comment would be my line of thought as well, if it is actually in recognition of international women's day.

  After coming back, I mentioned to an elder who had befriended me, that my wife and i were gonna read the bible from.cover to cover, as i really hadn't done that before, and neither had she (she wasn't a witness) the next meeting he brings me a printed out copy of a study guide, he downloaded from JW.org. it is an outline of how the society recommends you read the bible. And it "hopscotches" all over the different books. He insisted that this would help in understanding the bibles true meaning and would make it less confusing to read. I believed his sincerity, but just could not understand why in the world I needed to read the bible in their order. It really bothered me. Ultimately I never followed through and read it cover to cover. JeffT, your explanation makes perfect sense.

  Wish I still had the outline to show you all. Threw it out. Maybe someone here knows what I'm talking about.

  so i just finished watching the latest cedars video on spanking children.

  i like lloyd, and think that overall he does a good job covering issues in his videos.

  but i've gotta disagree with him on this issue, to a point.. i don't agree with beating your children, but i do believe in spanking, when appropriate.
